Here’s a video I found linked on Facebook yesterday. Apparently Vermont Compost Company has been feeding its chickens from compost piles for over a decade!
It’s encouraging to find out that someone’s already doing something similar to the duck-assisted composting we started just a few weeks ago. Now that we have definite proof that this is possible, we’re making plans for expanding and refining our process. We just need to get more of our property fenced in (which will have to wait until thawed ground and extra money coincide), and we’ll have to spend some time experimenting and calculating when the piles have the most duck food so that we can stagger them correctly.
This video is just a clip; watch the full piece on Geoff Lawton’s website. Apparently Lawton is trying a variation on this method himself, so keep an eye out for future videos.
